Water Issues: Delhi LG writes open letter to Arvind Kejriwal

Water Issues: Delhi Lieutenant Governor claimed that Delhi Water Minister Atishi used this incident for narrow political goals. The Lieutenant Governor said in the letter, I was deeply distressed by the insensitive communication of Water Minister Atishi. However, even before I could receive it, the letter reached various social media and mainstream media platforms. The minister has used the unfortunate death of a woman in Delhi for narrow and partisan political goals.

Water shortage due to government failure

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena Said that underlining the lack of water supply behind the incident, Atishi has blamed his own government of more than nine years. Saxena said, his (Atishi’s) letter is actually a prima facie admission of (the government’s) inaction and incompetence in the last almost 10 years. He claimed that many such incidents in the past regarding water shortage have happened due to the failure of the government.

Atishi had made serious allegations against LG

Atishi hit back at Saxena over the open letter and held him responsible for stopping the work of Delhi Jal Board (DJB). A few days ago, Atishi had written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor requesting him to suspend the CEO of Delhi Jal Board. The minister had written a letter to the Lieutenant Governor after the death of a woman in a fight with her neighbor over filling water from a public tap in North-East Delhi’s Farsh Bazar area. Atishi said, LG is responsible for stopping the work of Jal Board. LG has encouraged the officers who stopped the work. Despite repeated requests, no action is being taken against the officials.
