Wall will not be built between BHU IIT, administration accepted the demand of students, security arrangements of the entire campus will be strengthened.

After the protest by IITians against the molestation of a student in the BHU IIT campus, it was decided to build a wall for security purposes. Since then, students in BHU were protesting by protesting and burning effigies. Meanwhile, during the meeting in the presence of BHU Vice Chancellor and IIT Director, the members present unanimously agreed that no wall of any kind will be built in the IIT BHU campus. It is not possible to solve the security problems of IIT-BHU through the boundary wall. The security arrangements in BHU and IIT campus will be strengthened more than before. In the meeting that lasted for more than three hours, both the institutions discussed issues related to enhancing security in the university campus in a coordinated manner and maintaining a peaceful and safe campus.

It is not logical to divide the premises

The members unanimously agreed that at present many facilities, units and services like hospitals, sewage system, electricity and water supply, post office, campus roads etc. are used jointly. In such a situation, it is not logical to divide the premises and isolate any one part with a wall. Both the institutions reiterated their commitment to take necessary steps to ensure the safety of students across the campus. BHU administration appealed to the students to follow all the rules and protocols. It was agreed in the meeting that all the points will be implemented with immediate effect and steps will be taken to ensure their smooth compliance.

Formation of joint committee on security issues

A joint committee of faculty members from both the institutions has been constituted on the issue of security and safe environment on the campus. This committee will coordinate among themselves and suggest steps to ensure a safe environment for the students in the BHU campus. This decision was taken in the meeting

  • CCTV surveillance will be expedited in BHU and IIT BHU campus. For this, cooperation is being taken from Varanasi Smart City Limited. So that modern CCTV surveillance system can be installed in the university. The premises have been surveyed by the Smart City team.

  • Better lighting arrangements are being ensured on the routes of the campus. Within the next two days, adequate lighting will be provided on the roads located on the campus.

  • Security barriers and check posts located on the campus are being further strengthened. At the same time, it is being ensured that security protocols are strictly followed round the clock.

  • Strict monitoring and security is being done at all the seven gates of the campus from 10 pm to 5 am, so that the entry of anti-social elements into the BHU campus can be prevented.

  • Both IIT (BHU) and BHU have women’s grievance redressal cells. Both the institutions will encourage and ensure further strengthening of these cells and greater participation of students in them. Both the institutions will review the GScash provisions within seven days. Will suggest steps for improvement as per requirement regarding the Women’s Grievance Redressal Cell.
