VIDEO: UCC bill passed in Uttarakhand Assembly, history created

The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill was passed by voice vote in the Uttarakhand Assembly on Wednesday. The Uniform Civil Code Bill, Uttarakhand 2024 was tabled in the House by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday. A special session of the Assembly was called to pass this bill. Earlier, while participating in the discussion on the bill, members of the opposition parties including Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had expressed objection to some provisions of the bill and demanded to hand it over to the Select Committee of the House.

BSP MLA Mohammad Shahzad had also presented a proposal in the House on this issue. However, this proposal was rejected by voice vote in the House. At the end of the discussion on the bill, the Chief Minister described this bill as historical and requested all the members to come together to pass it.
