Uttarakhand government asks for additional central forces to maintain law and order in Haldwani

Uttarakhand News: The Uttarakhand government has demanded more central forces to deal with the situation in view of the violence that broke out three days ago during the demolition of an illegal madrasa and namaz place in Banbhulpura, Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Officials here said that a demand has been made from the Home Ministry for four companies of Central Paramilitary Forces with 100 personnel each so that law and order can be maintained in the violence-hit Banbhulpura area.

Chief Secretary sent request to the Center

He told that Chief Secretary Radha Raturi has sent a request to the Center in this regard. On the other hand, curfew has been lifted in rest of Haldwani except Banbhulpura area. About 1000 security personnel are already deployed in the city. Shops in Banbhulpura are closed and there is silence on the streets, which is occasionally broken by the movement of security forces. In view of the sensitive situation, internet services have also been disrupted so that rumors do not spread.

Six rioters died

A crowd of local people attacked the administrative staff who reached the spot on Thursday to demolish the illegal madrasa and namaz place built in ‘Malik Ka Bagicha’. During this time, the unruly elements in the crowd pelted stones from the rooftops, threw petrol bombs, set vehicles on fire and burnt down the Banbhulpura police station. To handle the worsening situation, the police used force in which six rioters were killed.

Curfew lifted from outskirts of Haldwani city

On Saturday, orders were given to conduct a magistrate’s inquiry into the riots that broke out on February 8 after the demolition of an ‘illegal’ madrasa in Haldwani, Uttarakhand. Curfew has been lifted from the outskirts of violence-hit Haldwani city, but it will remain in force in Banbhulpura area. On Thursday, a mob indulged in arson and vandalism in Banbhulpura area to demolish an ‘illegal’ madrasa. Police said that they have started searching for Abdul Malik, the builder here.
