UP News: Problem of drought and pollution will go away, DGCA gives green signal to IIT Kanpur’s achievement of making artificial rain.

Artificial Rain: There is another good news after the success achieved by IIT Kanpur in its efforts to generate artificial rain through cloud seeding. IIT Kanpur has now got official approval for this. Scientists of IIT Kanpur will now be able to give the benefit of their achievements to different parts of the country as per the need. This will not only solve the problems related to farming but will also help in environmental protection efforts. IIT Kanpur has proved successful in each of its test flights for cloud seeding and has succeeded in creating artificial clouds by dropping a powder from a height of thousands of feet. These artificial clouds are capable of causing rain on the earth and it appears as if it has actually rained naturally. Now IIT Kanpur is fully capable of providing as much rain as is required. It has also received permission from the government’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). After this approval, it will now be easy to make artificial rain wherever it is needed in the country.

The experiment was successful five times out of seven

After getting permission for artificial rain from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), IIT Kanpur has informed the Ministry of Forest Environment and Climate Change in this regard. This will not only help in farming but will also control air pollution by improving air quality. It is being told that IIT Kanpur had started working towards providing rain through cloud seeding a few years ago. Since then, seven experiments were conducted in this direction, out of which five experiments were completely successful and completely met the testing standards.

IIT Kanpur’s technology effective in addressing climate change

According to Professor Mahendra Aggarwal associated with this project, after getting the approval from DGCA, we are now completely ready to work in this field. He told that we had the technology but did not have the aircraft. We have now adapted the Cessna aircraft available with IIT Kanpur for this work. According to Anil Yadav, Director of Science and Technology Council of Uttar Pradesh Government, the state is in great need of this technology due to the rapid climate change. Through this, help will now be available in many tasks.

Computer Science and Engineering Department achieved feat

IIT Kanpur had started working on this project six years ago to create artificial rain. It was led by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of IIT Kanpur. In this way, the efforts of IIT Kanpur to get rid of pollution and drought have been successful.

Work affected during Corona infection period

A special aircraft and equipment were required for rain testing. In 2020, equipment was procured from America but could not be supplied due to the lockdown. After this, in 2021, the team of IIT Kanpur reached here with all the equipment from America, for which permission was sought to be installed in the American aircraft Cessna. After this, this experiment was successful at a height of 5000 feet. During this test, agents were dispersed using flares as per the prescribed standards, thereby creating clouds.
