Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh for the first time Khelo India University Games (KIUG) has got a chance to host. These games, which will start from May 25 in four cities of the state, Lucknow, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Varanasi and Gorakhpur, will conclude on June 3 in Varanasi. In this episode, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will launch KIUG’s logo, mascot, jersey and anthem (song) on Friday.
Program organized at Indira Gandhi Foundation
Union Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Anurag Singh Thakur will also be present in this ceremony to be held at the Indira Gandhi Foundation of the capital. On this occasion, CM Yogi Adityanath and Anurag Singh Thakur will also flag off the torch relay.
Four torches will roam in all the districts of UP
Under the Khelo India University Games (KIUG), four torches will travel in all the districts of the state for the next 20 days and this rally will be welcomed through various cultural programs in every district. The Khelo India University Games will begin in the capital Lucknow on May 25 with a grand opening ceremony at the BBD University Cricket Ground.
The torches will return to Lucknow at the opening ceremony
Its torch will travel in four regions of the host state, Western, Eastern, Central and Bundelkhand and all the districts will get a chance to host the torch relay. All four sports torches will return on the day of the opening ceremony in Lucknow. It is being told that this event will start from May 25. But, sports like Kabaddi will start from May 23 at SVSP Sports Complex, Gautam Buddha Nagar.
21 sports competitions are being organized for the first time
More than 4700 players from more than 200 universities across the country will participate in this edition of KIUG. With this, till now there will be participation of more than 7000 players. The number of sports that will be included in this edition of KIUG is 21, which is the highest ever in the history of university sports. Rowing is also being included in this for the first time.
what games are included
12 sports Archery, Judo, Mallakhamb, Volleyball, Fencing, Badminton, Table Tennis, Rugby, Athletics, Hockey, Football will be organized at eight places in the capital Lucknow. Competitions of five sports basketball, kabaddi, boxing, swimming and weight lifting will be organized in three places in Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida).
Similarly, in Varanasi IIT-BHU there will be competitions of two sports wrestling and Yogasana, while rowing in Gorakhpur and related competitions will be held at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi. Rowing has been included in these games for the first time.
Along with this, water sports like rowing will be a part of the Khelo India University Games for the first time. Two indigenous sports disciplines namely Mallakhamb and Yogasana were featured in the previous edition of Khelo India University Games held in Karnataka and will be part of this edition as well.
