In Kanpur, UP, a husband working in Saudi Arabia gave triple talaq to his wife over phone just because she had got her eyebrows set to attend a domestic function. The entire family, including the victim, is upset after triple talaq was given over the phone just 21 months after the marriage. When there was no hearing in the police station, the victim appealed to the police commissioner. After this the CP investigated the matter and ordered action.
In-laws demanded a car
In fact, according to the victim girl, living in Kuli Bazaar of Badshahinaka police station area, her parents had married her to Mohammad Islam, a resident of Phulpur, Prayagraj, in January 2022. The victim’s mother says that despite living in a rented room in Kuli Bazar area, her cancer-stricken husband had saved money for the daughter’s dowry by not getting himself treated and to the best of his ability, he married the daughter and sent her off. Despite this, only three months after the marriage, the daughter’s husband Salim went to Saudi Arabia for a job as a driver. The victim says that after her husband went to Saudi, mother-in-law Muzaffari, son-in-law Rukhsar, brothers-in-law Saif and Saqib and father-in-law started harassing and torturing her on small matters and repeatedly pressurizing her to get a car from her parents’ house.
During this time, father Manzoor Alam died of cancer at his maternal home. When their demand for a car could not be fulfilled, they started imposing inhuman restrictions in their parents’ house. She says, ‘When I told these things to my husband, he told me to go and stay at my maternal home. Last August, when her husband returned, she went back to her in-laws’ house and lived with her husband for four months, but after his departure, her in-laws started harassing her again. They started making false complaints about me to my husband through phone and started provoking him and torturing him even more than before. After which, being upset, she again came to her parents’ house in Kanpur.
Gave triple talaq to wife over video call
On October 4, the husband made a video call to his wife living in her parents’ house. During this time, there was a function in the family and seeing the wife’s eyebrows set on the video call, husband Mohd. Salim suddenly got angry and said on the video call itself that I divorce you for your disobedience by getting eyebrow set done and divorced you by saying talaq thrice. According to the victim, he pleaded a lot but he did not agree.
Now upset, the victim complained through IGRS and also went to the police commissioner’s office and complained. After which, after investigation, the police have registered a case against the accused husband and other in-laws at Badshahinaka police station. ACP Nishank Sharma said that a woman had given an application that her in-laws were harassing her for dowry. Also, a few days ago, her husband from Saudi Arabia gave her triple talaq on the grounds that his wife had got her eyebrows set. As soon as the matter came to our notice, we registered a case against it and are investigating further.
