UP News: Government doctors will retire at the age of 65, preparation to approve the proposal in UP cabinet

Lucknow: The retirement age of government doctors will be increased to 65 years. This proposal will be placed in the cabinet meeting of the UP government on Tuesday. It is believed that it will get cabinet approval. This decision is being taken due to shortage of government doctors in UP. This will reduce the number of doctors retiring. At present the retirement age of government doctors is 62 years.

There are about 19 thousand doctor posts in the Provincial Medical Services Cadre (PMS) in UP. But at present there are only 11500 doctors in the entire cadre. In view of the long time taken in appointing doctors, the retirement age is now being increased. This will not reduce the number of doctors. It is noteworthy that the UP government attracts doctors in many ways to bring them into government service. Despite this, doctors do not come in that many numbers in government service.

There is a huge shortage of specialist doctors in the hospitals of UP. To fulfill this shortage, the government has provided the facility of recruitment to specialist doctors from level two. This facility has been given to doctors with MD, MS, DNB degrees. Because till a few years ago, government doctors were appointed in Level One. In this, doctors with MBBS and MD-MS degrees were recruited. In such a situation, doctors who had completed PG degree started moving away from government service.

Now they get appointment in a grade one level above MBBS doctors. Due to this, MD-MS, DNB doctors have started joining government services. However, this number is still much less than required. Due to lack of attraction for doctors in government service, now a proposal to increase the retirement age of doctors will be presented in the cabinet. After this, doctors will retire at the age of 65.
