UP News: DG Jail seeks report on death of 2 prisoners in Sultanpur Jail, major action may be taken soon

In the case of death under suspicious circumstances of two undertrial prisoners in UP’s Sultanpur jail, DG Jail has asked DIG Prison Ayodhya Range to submit a detailed report. Upon receiving the report, action will be taken against the guilty jail personnel. When former IPS Amitabh Thakur prominently raised the matter of the death of two prisoners of Amethi lodged in Sultanpur jail on June 22, the governance has become strict. In the CJM report, it has come out as murder instead of suicide. It is believed that major action may be taken soon. On June 21, the dead body of Karia alias Vijay Pasi and Manoj Raidas, residents of Lorikpur village under Jamo police station of Amethi, was found hanging from a tree in a suspicious condition inside the jail. The jail administration called it suicide. The postmortem report confirmed injuries etc., but all this was suppressed by the jail administration and the district administration.

Revealed in magisterial investigation

The magisterial inquiry conducted by the then CJM Sapna Tripathi on December 2 found that the cause of death was anti-mortem hanging, but the postmortem made it clear that the deceased was hanged against his will under the influence of some intoxicant. Because of which this is not a case of suicide, but of murder. Whose full responsibility lies with the jail administration. On the basis of this report, former IPS officer and National President of Azad Adhikar Sena, Amitabh Thakur had demanded that if an FIR for murder is not filed against the jail administration responsible for this, he will protest in front of the jail headquarters, Lucknow. Taking this seriously, DG Jail has called for a report from DIG Ayodhya. He has said that after receiving the report, appropriate action will be taken against the personnel found guilty as per rules.

Arrest was made in murder case

Let us tell you that Manoj Raidas and Vijay Pasi were arrested in the murder case of their 48-year-old neighbor Om Prakash, who was murdered while sleeping outside his house on May 26. Police said that during interrogation, both of them confessed that they had murdered Om Prakash. Because they mistook him for his brother Jitendra, who had beaten them up during a fight a few days ago. The then jail superintendent of Sultanpur, Umesh Singh, who is posted in Varanasi, was contacted and said that after the bodies of the two prisoners were found hanging, he had immediately informed his senior officers, who also visited the spot. He said that the forensic team and dog squad were also called to the spot and nothing unusual was found. He further said that no serious injuries were found on the bodies of the prisoners and it was clear that the deaths were due to hanging. Also, during the investigation by the District Magistrate, everything was found to be normal.
