BJP MP from Azamgarh ‘Nirhua’ told reporters at the district headquarters on Saturday night, ‘I have been listening to the rebellion of Ballia since childhood. Ballia has played a historical role in the freedom movement. Countless heroes had sacrificed their lives and had liberated Ballia five years before the country got independence. ,

Ballia was declared ‘Azad’ on 19 August 1942

He said that he is impressed by the role of Ballia in the freedom movement and will make a film based on ‘Ballia’s Revolution’. In the year 1942, a few days after the start of the Quit India Movement, many local people rebelled against the British government and stormed the district jail to free fellow revolutionaries. Ballia was declared ‘Azad’ on August 19, 1942, five years before official independence under the leadership of freedom fighter Chittu Pandey. This revolution did not last long and was soon suppressed by the British. He sent troops to regain control of Ballia.

Sher-e-Baliya fought with the British under the leadership of Chittu Pandey

Under the leadership of Sher-e-Ballia Chittu Pandey, the jailed fighters freed themselves by breaking the gate, occupied the chair of the District Magistrate and nominated themselves as Collector. Revolutionary Chittu Pandey also ran the government here till 22 August 1942, which was considered a direct challenge to the British rule and it was discussed in the whole country. After this, on the night of 23 August, the British captured it again. The echo of Ballia’s independence echoed till London. 84 people were martyred in this fight. After this freedom struggle, the whole country got strength. The entire district celebrates this freedom as Ballia Sacrifice Day every year on 19th August by remembering the freedom fighters who lost their lives in the said movement.

This is how the spark of freedom spread

On August 11, a procession of independence took place in Ballia. On August 12, a huge procession took place in Ballia and Bairia. On August 13, the students who came from Banaras to Ballia by train burnt Chitbadgaon station. On August 14, a procession of middle school children was run over by horses in Sikandarpur by the Thanedar. On August 14 itself, railway tracks were uprooted in Chitbadgaon, Tajpur, Phephna. In the same Belthara-Road, the goods train was looted and the tracks were uprooted. After this, Ballia was completely cut off from the rail service. On August 19, 1942, the jack of the British was thrown away from the Baria police station and the brave revolutionaries hoisted the tricolor at the police station amidst the hail of bullets. In this, 19 revolutionaries were martyred by the bullets of the British and three revolutionaries had died in jail due to the torture of the British.

Commissioner Nether Soul came with Baloch Army as DM in-charge

On the night of 23 August, Governor General Hallett of the British Government sent Banaras Commissioner Nether Soul as the District Magistrate in charge of Ballia and sent him along with the Baloch army. Which created a massacre as soon as they came to Ballia while laying railway tracks from the Banaras side, on 23rd August in the afternoon from Buxar side under the leadership of Mark Smith by waterways and in the morning of 24th August from Azamgarh side under the leadership of Captain Murr. Reached Ballia.

The British army launched a cycle of repression, all the leaders were put in jail.
