UP News: Basti and Auraiya will receive 7th JRD Memorial Award for better performance in the field of health.

Lucknow: Basti district of UP has been selected for the 7th JRD Memorial Award along with Auraiya for the best performance in the country under the High Focus Large States-Moderate Wealth Level category. As a reward, financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh will also be given to the district. The award is given on the recommendation of a prestigious independent third party Technical Advisory Committee (USAID).

In this, it is given on the basis of significant progress in 20 indices affecting the health of women and adolescent girls such as adolescent health, drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, reproductive health, women empowerment, women related crimes, family planning, fertility level etc. The seventh JRD Memorial Award will be held on 18 December 2023 in New Delhi. In this, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran will give the award to Basti DM Andra Vamsi.

Basti DM Andra Vamsi said that USAID has made this evaluation on the basis of NFHS-5 (2019-21) and sample registration system relative to the National Family Health Survey 2015-16 (NFHS-4). Significant improvement in health and demographic indices like reproductive health, adolescent health, menstrual hygiene, sanitation, access to clean drinking water, nutrition, ante-natal and post-natal care, reduction in anaemia, reduction in stunting, increase in immunization etc. in the district in the last 8 years. Has been observed.

Improvement in last eight years

In the last 8 years, there has been a lot of progress in women’s health as well as overall health statistics in the colony. The rate of anemia in women (15- 49 years) has decreased from 55.7% to 39.9%. Anemia among adolescent girls (15-19 years) has reduced from 58.9% to 41.1%. Complete vaccination has increased from 57.5% to 73.8%. Stunting among children (under 5 years) has decreased from 48.9% to 35.9%, time to family planning has increased from 18.71% to 47.6%.

This also improved

  • Contraceptive prevalence rate increased from 18.3% to 72%

  • Unmet needs of family planning reduced from 29.9% to 11.1%

  • Percentage of child marriage decreased from 28.3% to 15.9%

  • Teenage fertility rate reduced from 1.3% to 1.0%

  • High birth order (3 or more children) decreased from 4.6% to 2.6%

  • Antenatal care (at least 4 visits) increased from 19.8% to 31.5% Postnatal care within 48 hours of birth increased from 50.6% to 83.8%

  • Average personal expenditure for maternal health reduced from Rs 4428 to Rs 2062

  • Safe delivery rate increased from 76.6% to 92%

  • Institutional deliveries increased from 60.5% to 79.2%

  • Household sanitation facilities increased from 18.7% to 64.2%

  • Use of menstrual hygiene products among women increased from 35.4% to 73.3%

Auraiya was also selected

Auraiya along with Basti has been selected as the best performing district under the high-focus large status-moderate wealth level category. In the invitation letter received from Population Foundation of India to DM Neha Prakash, it has been told that Auraiya has been selected in the 7th JRD Tata Memorial Awards and Oration Ceremony to be held in New Delhi on 18 December 2023. The district has been selected for this award for its exemplary efforts in pursuing development and reproductive health programs.

JRD Tata established the Population Foundation of India in 1970. This institution has five decades of research experience in the fields of women’s sensitivity, population, health and development policies. This organization works under the guidance of an eminent Management Council and Advisory Committee consisting of experts from the government and private sector. After the death of JRD Tata, this organization established the JRD Memorial Award at the national level. Through which the highest performing states and districts are honored.
