After 108 madrassas of the state received funds worth more than Rs 150 crore in just two years, the authorities have come into action. It is being told that the Special Investigation Team has found evidence of foreign funding in madrassas on a large scale. Investigation has revealed that madrassas have been receiving funding from Gulf countries. In such a situation, the investigation team has started investigating it in depth. According to the information, the districts of Uttar Pradesh whose madrassas have been receiving financial help from foreign countries include many districts including Shravasti, Bahraich, Siddharth Nagar, Moradabad, Rampur, Aligarh, Saharanpur, Deoband and Azamgarh. It is being told that UP ATS has summoned the managers of these madrassas for complete information about who is the organization sending funds from abroad, from where the money was sent, in what manner it was sent, from which account it was sent. Not only this, after getting the funding, where was the money spent in the madrasa? What has been done with the money, all receipts for its expenditure, purchase bills etc. will all be under the ambit of investigation. With this, ATS will be able to completely understand what is the motive behind funding on such a large scale. In the month of October, the Uttar Pradesh government had constituted a three-member SIT comprising ADG ATS and officers of the Minority Welfare Department and ordered to investigate the foreign funding of madrassas.

Three-member SIT is investigating

The Special Investigation Team of UP Police has received information that 108 madrassas of Uttar Pradesh are getting foreign funding. SIT has sought complete information about bank accounts from these madrassas. According to the information, out of 25 thousand, 16500 madrassas are recognized in Uttar Pradesh. Many of these madrassas were being funded from abroad. Yogi Adityanath government had formed a three-member SIT under the leadership of ADG ATS Mohit Aggarwal to investigate this.

Meanwhile, after investigating the unrecognized madrassas, a committee of District Minority Welfare Officer and Block Education Officer nominated by the DM has been formed in each district to investigate the subsidized and permanently recognized madrassas as well. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Javed, Chairman of Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board, has expressed objection to the investigation of Madrasas. He said that the compartment exam results are yet to be declared in Madrasas. Board forms are being filled. Due to investigation in Madrassas, important work and studies will be affected. The annual examinations of Madrasa Board will also be delayed. Therefore, by postponing the investigation process, the examination work should be given the best priority, so that the future of the students can be secured. He met Minority Welfare Minister Dharampal Singh and handed over the letter to him and requested to conduct the investigation after the board examination.

Handed over to investigation committee in the districts

Madrasa Board Registrar Priyanka Awasthi had sent a letter to the Director of Minority Welfare requesting for an investigation. Under this, Director of Minority Welfare Department J. Reebha has sent letters to all the Divisional Deputy Directors and all the District Minority Welfare Officers giving instructions for investigation. In the districts where there are more than 20 madrassas, a second committee has been formed. In this, there will be Deputy Director Minority Welfare and Block Education Officer nominated by DM. The Director had given instructions to get the buildings, basic facilities and educational records of the working teachers and employees of Madrassas examined.

Report will have to be submitted by 30th December

This investigation will have to be completed by December 30 and the report will have to be submitted to the Registrar of Madrasa Board. 560 madrassas in the state get grants from the government. Its investigation has to be completed in the first phase by December 30. In the second phase, 3,834 permanently recognized madrassas are to be inspected between January 15 and March 30. The director also wrote in the letter that the madrasas located in the state still lack basic facilities and the children studying there are not getting quality scientific and modern education, due to which proper employment opportunities are not available to the students.
