UP: High Court bans granting of advocacy license to accused-convicted in criminal case, says lawyers are becoming criminals

Allahabad High Court News: In an important decision, the Allahabad High Court in UP has ordered the state government and the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council to stop granting advocacy license to a person accused or convicted in a criminal case. The court said in its comment, ‘It is an alarming situation that criminals are becoming lawyers.’ Along with this, the High Court has said that the Bar Council should adopt the process of recording complete information of the crime in the application form itself. So that one cannot obtain the license to practice by misleading others. The decision on the application should be taken only after the police report comes. At the same time, if the matter of hiding the facts comes to light then the license should be cancelled. This order has been given by the division bench of Justice SD Singh and Justice Vinod Diwakar on the petition of advocate Pawan Kumar Dubey.
