Bareilly: Reservation for Uttar Pradesh Municipal Elections, 2023 has been issued. Bareilly Municipal Corporation The mayor’s post is once again unreserved (general caste). After this, the battle has started to become the first citizen of the city. BJP has a long line of claimants. There are 22 contenders including the outgoing mayor of BJP, Dr. Umesh Gautam.
It is discussed that some SP leaders are trying to contest elections from BJP. However, it is said that it is difficult to get tickets for them. SP has held a meeting with the claimants. In this, many prominent people refused to contest the civic elections in view of the current political situation in Bareilly Municipal Corporation. But, now the SP organization is preparing to send the names of former Mayor Dr. Umesh Gautam, Councilor Rajesh Aggarwal, Sanjeev Saxena to the high command in the panel.
On the other hand, so far no one has applied to contest the mayoral election in BSP. Congress finalized the ticket of Dr. KV Tripathi. The BJP has a strong vote share in the city. But, SP has the support of Muslim and Yadav voters. However, the number of Yadav voters in the city is very less. Yadav voters are less than 20 thousand. BJP will also make a dent in the Muslim vote. SP needs a big vote with Yadav, Muslim. The SP had also tried regarding this in the assembly elections. Gave tickets to the candidates of Vaish community in the city and cantt. But, the candidates could not even save their booths.
Political maths of Bareilly Municipal Corporation
Bareilly Municipal Corporation has 847763 voters. There are about 3.75 lakh Muslims, 85 lakh SCs, 70 thousand Vaishyas, 55 thousand Kayasthas, 37 thousand Brahmins, 19 thousand Yadavs, 18 thousand Sikhs etc. votes in this. SP does not have a single mayor in UP. In the 2017 civic elections, out of 16 municipal corporations, 14 were won by the BJP and 2 by the BSP.
Main contest for ticket between them in BJP
22 claimants had applied in BJP. In this, a contest is being considered between the outgoing Mayor Dr. Umesh Gautam, Metropolitan President Dr. KM Arora, Dr. Vinod Pagrani, Dr. Vimal Bhardwaj. However, former minister Bahoran Lal Maurya, former district president Ravindra Singh Rathore, Shashiwala Rathi etc. have also applied. In the BJP, the ticket of Manish Agarwal, son of National Treasurer and former cabinet minister Rajesh Agarwal, is discussed.
