Ghaziabad: In the second phase of municipal elections in the state, voting will be held in 38 districts on Thursday. For this phase, 39146 candidates are in the fray for 6929 posts for 370 bodies. The fate of all these will be sealed in EVMs and ballot boxes.

Talking about the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation regarding the UP civic elections, it is considered an impregnable fort of the BJP. Since the establishment of the Municipal Corporation, the BJP has been in power here. Be it the power of any party in the state. The victory has gone to the BJP’s lap. This time the opposition wants to break the winning streak of BJP. BJP has nominated Sunita Dayal and BSP has nominated Nisara Khan for the post of Mayor of Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation. While Pushpa Rawat from Congress, Poonam Yadav, wife of Sikandar Yadav from SP and Janki Jagat Bisht from Aam Aadmi Party are in the fray.

BJP’s victory in 2017

In the year 2017, BJP fielded Asha Sharma for the election of Mayor in Ghaziabad due to reservation of women’s seats. Asha Sharma won from here. Asha Sharma won by 1,63000 votes. Asha Sharma got a total of 2,82,732 votes, while Congress’s Dolly Sharma came second. He got a total of 1,19,091 votes. BSP’s Munni Chowdhary got 77,001 thousand votes.

Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation still occupied by them

  • For the first time in 1995, the election of mayor was held in Ghaziabad. BJP candidate Dinesh Chandra Garg won in this.

  • In 2017, the mayor seat was reserved for women. BJP fielded Asha Sharma and she won the post of Mayor.

236 centers are sensitive

There are a total of 9 municipal bodies in Ghaziabad, including one Municipal Corporation, 4 Municipal Corporations and 4 Nagar Panchayats. Municipal bodies are divided into a total of 26 zones and 128 sectors. Voting will be held at a total of 606 polling stations and 2371 polling places in Ghaziabad. In Ghaziabad, 236 centers are sensitive and 149 very sensitive and 66 hypersensitive polling stations have been set up. The total number of voters in Ghaziabad is 2580225, of which 1401056 are male and 1179169 are female.
