U-turn of minor wrestler’s father against Brijbhushan Singh, told why he was accused of sexual harassment

Taking a U-turn, the father of the 17-year-old wrestler has retracted his statement on Wednesday.

Complaint was lodged in anger

The minor wrestler’s father had lodged an FIR against Brijbhushan Sharan Singh. He accused Brij Bhushan of molesting his daughter. But now the father of the minor wrestler has withdrawn the complaint. The minor wrestler’s father said that his daughter had lodged the complaint in anger over being discriminated against by the All India Wrestling Federation. He said, ‘Brij Bhushan did not misbehave with my daughter. There was no incident of sexual harassment, but my daughter was discriminated against.

He further said, ‘I was alone in this fight. No one supported me except a few wrestlers. My family is living in terror since the matter came to light. I had made it clear in the Supreme Court on June 5 that the President of the Wrestling Federation did not commit any kind of harassment. But I am not going away from the complaint of discrimination.

Significantly, the Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Brij Bhushan Singh under the POCSO Act on the basis of the statement of the minor’s father. The minor female wrestler had recorded statements with her father and grandfather at the Connaught Place Police Station to withdraw the complaint, after that she withdrew her complaint by recording her statement before the Magistrate in the court. On June 2, the statement of the minor wrestler was recorded in front of the magistrate in the Patiala House Court. If sources are to be believed, the minor female wrestler said in the court that Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, president of the Wrestling Federation of India, had never sexually assaulted her.

Wrestlers met Union Sports Minister

Let us inform that on Wednesday itself, Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur. After a meeting that lasted for about 5 hours, it was assured that the FIRs against the wrestlers would be withdrawn. However, both Malik and Punia insisted that their agitation was not over and they were only suspending their protest till June 15 at the request of the government. Meanwhile, if action is not taken, he will continue his protest. Talking to the media after the meeting, Thakur said that the meeting was held in a good atmosphere and in a positive manner and the government has accepted the demands of the protesting wrestlers.
