Two AAP MLAs were sentenced to stand till the court rises, were involved in the mob that attacked the police

New Delhi : A special judge in India’s capital Delhi on Monday sent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs Akhilesh Pati Tripathi and Sanjeev Jha to jail ’till the rising of the court’ for being part of the mob that attacked policemen at Burari police station in north Delhi in 2015. The nominal sentence of ‘ was pronounced on Monday. A person who is punished ’till the rising of the court’ is not allowed to leave the court until the day’s proceedings are over.

Fine of 10-10 thousand rupees on both MLAs

Special Judge Gitanjali Goel passed these directions while upholding the decision of the Magistrate Court. The magistrate court convicted both the leaders on September 7, 2022. However, the judge commuted the jail sentence awarded to Akhileshpati Tripathi to six months and Sanjeev Jha to three months. The Metropolitan Magistrate sentenced him to jail on January 5, 2023. Along with this, while modifying the jail sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on him in the case.

MLAs of Burari and Model Town were punished

The judge observed that having regard to the facts and circumstances of the case and the totality of the facts, it would be appropriate that the appellants be charged under Section 332 (voluntarily causing hurt) as well as Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) ) to be punished till the ‘rising of the court’. Akhilesh Pati Tripathi is the MLA from Model Town, while Sanjeev Jha is the MLA from Burari.

On February 20, 2015, policemen were attacked in Burari police station

According to a media report, the Metropolitan Magistrate had also convicted 15 others for rioting at Burari police station in North Delhi and causing injury to policemen. According to the prosecution, the incident took place on the night of 20 February 2015, when a mob attacked policemen at Burari police station and damaged government property.
