Trinamool MLA gets into a scuffle with Shubhendu Adhikari, minister intervenes

Budget session is going on in West Bengal Assembly. The state budget was presented on February 8 last. After this the budget was discussed on Friday and Saturday. On the last day i.e. Saturday, Leader of Opposition Subhendu Adhikari presented his reaction on the budget in the House. Mr. Adhikari opposed the state budget. He was given 15 minutes to speak on the budget in the House. But while speaking in the House, Trinamool Congress MLAs clashed with him. The situation would have escalated into a scuffle, but due to the intervention of Minister Arup Biswas, the situation was controlled.

How did the matter escalate?

During the discussion on the budget in the House, Shubhendu Adhikari said that this is the first time that the budget session of the state assembly started without the Governor’s address. The government is doing politics. Therefore, Governor CV Anand Bose was not invited at the beginning of the budget session. Criticizing the state budget, he said that the sources of income have not been shown in the budget. The government is only emphasizing on taking loans. He said that the government will take a loan of seven thousand crore rupees in the financial year 2024-25. In this situation, a new born in the state will be born with a debt burden of seven thousand rupees.

Government wants to earn money only by selling liquor: Shubhendu Adhikari

He said that the government is only trying to earn money by selling liquor. He also termed the state government’s announcement of providing government employment to five lakh people as a lie. On hearing this, many Trinamool MLAs started making noise. Meanwhile, Trinamool MLA from Tarakeshwar in Hooghly district Ramendu Singhrai called Shubhendu a thief without naming him. On hearing this, Shubhendu became furious. He immediately turned back and said – ‘Apnaar Baba’ means your father. After hearing this, Ramendu Singhrai got up from his seat and started moving towards Shubhendu. Shri Rai was in an aggressive posture. He moved towards Shubhendu. Meanwhile, Electricity Minister Arup Biswas caught Ramendu while he was running, but he was not ready to stop. The minister somehow calmed him down and took him to his seat.

Speaker gave advice to both sides

After this incident, Assembly Speaker Biman Basu gave advice to both the parties. Said to use unparliamentary words in the House. After this the matter calmed down. On the other hand, in his speech, Shubhendu said that under the Lakhi Bhandar Scheme, the state government is giving one thousand rupees only in name, whereas in other states Assam and Madhya Pradesh, more than this is being given to women.

Demanded to give free cylinders to women

He also demanded that free cylinders be given to women. He said that six lakh government posts are vacant. More than five lakh people have retired. But the state government is talking about providing employment to five lakh people.

BJP’s walkout before Finance Minister’s speech

Minister of State for Finance (Independent Charge) Chandrima Bhattacharya was to speak only after the speech of Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Subhendu Adhikari. But even before Chandrima’s speech, BJP MLAs walked out of the House raising slogans. On the other hand, while leaving the House of BJP MLAs, Speaker Biman Banerjee also gave a warning. He said that if you all go out of the House, action will be taken against all your members.
