Tribal girl from Bhanapur village of Maharashtra takes flight of dreams, will study in London

Who says that there cannot be a hole in the sky? Just throw a stone with all your heart, friends…! The daughter of a small village in Maharashtra has proved this proverb to be true… Everyone dreams of leaving a small village and going to a big city to pursue higher education. Thinking about going abroad is a very distant thing, but a tribal girl from Bhanapur village located in Savli tehsil of Chandrapur district of Maharashtra has achieved a unique position by fighting against adverse circumstances.

Actually, Priya Yashwant Tadam of Bhanapur village has received a scholarship of Rs 37 lakh 61 thousand 183 from the Maharashtra government to study LLM at Queen Mary University of London. Now she will study LLM in International Business Law in London. With this success, Priya along with her family has brought glory to the entire tribal society and the state.

Priya says that there are houses of about 40 tribal families in my village situated amidst dense forest. When there was no school in the village, my younger sister Shivani and I used to walk to Asola Mendha Primary School, about two kilometers away from home, to study. My father did not have enough money to keep both of us sisters in a hostel. Later, both of us sisters started living in our relative’s house in Brahmapuri.

After that I went to Gadchiroli for further studies, from where I completed high school. Further, I took admission in Government Law College, Nagpur to study LLB. Today, despite her father’s financial condition not being good, due to her determination and dedication towards studies, Priya is going to leave Naxal-affected Chandrapur and travel to London.
