TRAI: New rule coming into effect from July 1, swapped SIM card will not be able to be ported, read report

TRAI New Rule from 1st July: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has issued a new rule for mobile SIM cards. This rule has been issued on March 15, 2024, which is going to be implemented across the country from July 1, 2024. This new rule has been brought to stop the incidents of fraud.

What has changed in TRAI rules?

Under the new rule, if mobile users have recently swapped their SIM cards, they will not be able to port their mobile number. For your information, let us tell you that exchange of SIM is called SIM swapping. SIM swapping is done when the SIM card is lost or broken.

For your information, let us tell you that TRAI has recommended the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to start a new service, in which the name of every call coming on the mobile user’s handset has to be displayed, even if that name is saved in the contact list. Or not. With this, incidents of fraud can be controlled.

What is SIM swapping?

In today’s era, SIM swap frauds have increased a lot, in which fraudsters easily capture the photo of your PAN card and Aadhaar. After this, they get a new SIM card issued on the pretext of losing the mobile. After this, the OTP received on your number reaches the fraudsters.
