Toyota Hilux: Custom version of Toyota Hilux joins the Indian Army fleet, know the price and features

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) in collaboration with the Indian Army showcased two custom-modified Hilux (Toyota Hilux) Vehicles unveiled. These specialized vehicles, Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and Forest Patrol Vehicle (FPV), meet the unique requirements of the Army including remote servicing and patrolling operations. Toyota Hilux becomes part of two-day exhibition

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) showcased two specially modified Hilux at East Tech 2023 (ET2023), an annual technology showcase event organized by the Eastern Command of the Indian Army in collaboration with the Government of Assam.

Two variants of Toyota Hilux handed over to the army

Toyota Kirloskar Motor, in partnership with an authorized external vendor, conducted an extensive market survey to understand the specific mobility needs of consumers, including the Indian Army. This led to the creation of two unique Hilux variants, aimed to meet the diverse requirements of the Indian Army and other specialized consumers, with an emphasis on “mobility for all”.

Features of Toyota Hilux

Modifications include Field Diagnosis Vehicle (FDV) and Forest Patrol Vehicle (FPV). The FDV is designed to provide essential vehicle service in remote locations, supporting defense operations. The FPV aids in patrolling and surveillance, and features fog lamps for better night vision, digital video recording and a winch for emergency rescue operations.

Toyota Hilux Features

The Hilux comes with a 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. This engine generates 204 horsepower and 420 Newton meters of torque (500 Newton meters in the automatic variant). Like the Fortuner, transmission options in the Hilux come with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. For better off-road capability, the Hilux also gets a low-range gearbox, front and rear electronic differential locks. Its approach angle is 29 degrees and departure angle is 26 degrees. Additionally, the Hilux has a water wading capability of 700 mm.

Earlier in July, Toyota had handed over a fleet to the Indian Army.

TKM had earlier handed over a fleet of Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Indian Army in July 2023. Additionally, in September 2023, Toyota showcased two modified Hilux vehicles at the North Tech Seminar organized by the Northern Command of the Indian Army.

Indian Army is continuously upgrading

Mr. Varinder Kumar Wadhwa, General Manager, Strategic Business Unit (East), Toyota Kirloskar Motor, expressed his pride in introducing these customized Hilux variants at East Tech 2023. These vehicles, modified in collaboration with authorized vendors, are aimed at increasing operational efficiency. At defense sites, Toyota’s dedication to assisting the defense sector in achieving self-reliance was underlined.
