Toyota Fortuner introduced with flex fuel engine, know when it will come to India

New Delhi : Toyota Motor has introduced the flex-fuel model of its flagship SUV Fortuner at the ongoing Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show. The carmaker showcased the SUV wrapped in white and green exterior color scheme at the show last weekend. The special Fortuner SUV is equipped with a flex-fuel engine, which can run entirely on bioethanol fuel. It is called Fortuner Flexi Fuel E-100. Toyota Motor sells the Fortuner SUV in India only with a diesel powertrain.

The Toyota Fortuner with the flex-fuel engine comes with a 2.7-litre DOHC Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol unit, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox only. The engine is capable of generating 161 bhp power and 243 Nm peak torque. The Toyota Fortuner SUV in India only comes with a 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel motor, mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The engine can generate 204 PS of power and 500 Nm of torque. In terms of looks, the Fortuner SUV is largely similar to the models currently on sale globally.

Toyota Motor is one of the car manufacturers that is actively working on alternative fuels to promote hybrid vehicles. The carmaker recently introduced the first flex-fuel based model in India, the Corolla Altis. Japanese auto giant Toyota is part of the Centre’s drive for alternative fuels to reduce automotive pollution and a sustainable green shift towards hybrid and electric vehicles.

The Corolla Altis is equipped with a flex-fuel engine, which blends petrol and ethanol as well as an electric powertrain. At the heart of it is a 1.8-litre ethanol derived petrol-hybrid engine. It will be able to run on such fuel, which will be mixed with 20 percent to 100 percent ethanol. The flex engine can generate power of 75.3 kW and peak torque of 142 Nm. The car is also equipped with a 1.3 kWh hybrid battery pack and the electric motor offers an output of 53.7 kW and peak torque of 162.8 Nm. The engine comes mated to CVT hybrid transaxle transmission system.

Fortuner GR Sport launched in Thailand

Toyota Motor has launched its popular and powerful SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) Fortuner GR Sport in Thailand. According to media reports, Toyota Thailand has introduced the 2023 Fortuner SUV range in the market by updating it lightly. The 2023 Toyota Fortuner is sold in three variants Leader, Legender and GR Sport. The GR Sport is the latter variant, which gets a significant update in the form of a power bump. The 2023 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport now packs more power and torque from its 2.8-litre diesel engine, making it stand out from the lineup.

The 2.8-litre diesel motor on the 2023 Toyota Fortuner GR Sport now makes 221 Bhp and 550 Nm of peak torque. This is around 19.7 Bhp and 50 Nm more than the current Fortuner GR Sport sold in Thailand. The oil burner is mated only to a 6-speed manual transmission, which sends power to all four wheelers via Four Wheel Drive (4WD).

In addition, the 2023 Toyota Fortuner range gets features including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The sportier GR Sport variant has been upgraded with new monotube dampers, GR-special brakes and bigger 20-inch alloy wheels. The cabin has been swam with aluminum pedals. It gets GR-branded sports seats, a key fob and start-stop button. The Fortuner GR-Sport also gets Toyota Safety Sense.
