Toll Tax Rules Change: The central government has once again started preparing to attack the VIP (Very Important Person) culture. According to media reports, the government is now in no mood to give any kind of tax exemption to VIPs at the toll plazas of the National Highway. There is also news that for this the government is going to change the rules of toll tax and its first effect will be visible on the boards for VIPs installed at toll plazas. It is being told that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also been instructed to remove the board of ‘Exempted Fastag’ at the toll plaza to give tax exemption to VIPs.

Secretary level meeting

It is also being told in the media reports that a secretary level meeting was held last week to not give any relaxation to the VIPs at the toll plaza, in which this suggestion was given. In the suggestion given in the secretary level meeting, it has been said that those boards on toll plazas in which names of people who are exempted from toll tax are written should be removed. However, this has not been officially confirmed yet.

Amendment in toll tax rules

In the suggestion given in the meeting of secretaries, it has also been said that to end VIP culture from toll plazas, the government will have to amend the toll tax rules. The English newspaper Times of India, quoting sources, has reported that there is no justification for such hoardings, which lead to wastage of public money.

VIPs get exemption from ‘Exempted Fastag’

It has also been said in the report that the government has given the right to VIPs to get exemption at toll plazas. For this, ‘Exempted Fastag’ board has been installed at every toll plaza. The names of those people who are exempted from toll tax are written on this board. People have special interest in seeing these names. It is also being told that the National Highway Authority of India will prepare a separate lane for such people who are exempted from toll tax.

what are the rules

According to the rules of the National Highway Authority of India, a board has to be installed at the toll plaza to display the names of 22 VIPs who are exempted from toll tax. These names are written in Hindi and English. These boards are installed on both sides (in front and behind the toll plaza) at a distance of about 500 meters from the toll plaza. Now if the suggestions given in the secretary level meeting are accepted, then these boards will be removed in the coming days.
