The main topics that will be discussed in the three-day conference of Directors General of Police (DGP) and Inspectors General of Police (IGP) starting from January 5 in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, are the implementation of three new criminal laws, activities of pro-Khalistan groups and Jammu- Many issues are involved in Kashmir including terrorist attack. A Union Home Ministry official said that issues related to general elections, cyber crime, Maoist problem and inter-state police coordination are among many other major topics which are expected to be discussed during the meeting. Around 250 officers of the rank of Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police will attend the conference at the Rajasthan International Center in Jaipur, while more than 200 others are also likely to attend it. The Home Ministry official said that several officers have been assigned the responsibility of giving presentations on specific topics like counter-terrorism, online fraud, cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, activities of pro-Khalistan groups and left-wing extremism. There will be detailed discussions on how to face all these emerging internal security challenges.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that Modi will participate in the conference on January 6-7. A PMO statement said that another major agenda of the conference is to prepare a blueprint for the implementation of new criminal laws which will be discussed. Apart from this, future topics related to policing and security like challenges posed by new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Deepfake etc. and ways to deal with them will also be discussed in the conference. The PMO said the conference also provides an opportunity to identify tangible action points and monitor their progress, which are also presented to the Prime Minister every year.

This conference is the culmination of extensive discussions with district, state and national level police and intelligence officials on identified topics. Like every year, the best traditions of the states and union territories will be presented in the conference so that the states can learn from each other. The PMO said that since the year 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken keen interest in the DGP conference. Thematic discussions are also planned during breakfast, lunch and dinner at this year’s conference. The PMO said this will provide an opportunity to senior police officers to share their views and recommendations with the Prime Minister on internal security issues affecting the country.

The Prime Minister has also encouraged the organization of DGP conferences in every region of the country since 2014. It was organized in Guwahati in 2014, Rann of Kutch in 2015, National Police Academy, Hyderabad in 2016, Tekanpur (Madhya Pradesh) in 2017, Kevadiya (Gujarat) in 2018, Pune in 2019, Lucknow in 2021 and Delhi in 2023.
