According to the monthly data of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), in the month of August, Bharti Airtel gained 12.17 lakh wireless customers and the number of its mobile customers increased to 37.64 crore.

On the other hand, Vodafone Idea, which is facing cash crunch, lost 49,782 connections in this month. With this, the number of wireless customers of Vodafone Idea decreased to 22.82 crores.

However, compared to 39 lakh new customers in July, Jio’s growth in August remained sluggish. TRAI said that in August, 1.26 crore customers submitted their requests for Mobile Number Portability (MNP).

The total number of broadband subscribers increased by 0.96 percent to 87.6 crore in August. The top five broadband service providers had 98.35 percent market share in this month. These include Reliance Jio Infocom (45.5 crore), Bharti Airtel (25.3 crore), Vodafone-Idea (12.5 crore) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (2.5 crore).
