Ranchi: The grand statues of Maa Durga installed in puja pandals are the center of reverence. The beautiful idols of the Mother Goddess are made by spending lakhs of rupees and putting in months of labor by skilled artisans. In many pandals of the capital, sculptors create the image of Maa Durga using clay brought from Kolkata. On an average, two to four lakh rupees have been spent in the construction of a statue. The special thing is that the idols installed in the puja pandals of the capital do not harm the environment. Earlier, polymer clay or polystyrene thermocol was used to make sculptures. Due to this the water got contaminated after immersion. Now the use of artificial clay and other chemicals in the making of idols has been stopped.
The idol is made of silk thread, the mother’s jewelery is made of polished gold.
Puja committees have also made unique experiments in making idols displaying the divine form of the Mother Goddess. The idol in the pandal of Satya Amar Lok located at Harmu Road has been made using silk thread. The figure prepared from clay has been given the shape of Maa Durga using silk threads. Silk has also been used in Maa’s jewelery and weapons. The jewelery of the idol of the mother established by the Bharatiya Yuvak Sangh has been made grand by polishing it with gold.
Pallu is on the head of mother’s form, adornment is done without using clothes.
The idol of Mother Goddess in Ranchi Railway Station has been made complete with simplicity. The charming idol of the mother has a pallu on her head. She is not wearing any jewellery. Inspired by the publicized image of Mother India, instead of weapons, conch, globe, stick, wheat ear etc. have been displayed in the hands of Mother Durga. Cloth has not been used in the idol made in the pandal of Bandhgaadi Durga Puja Committee. The mother has been given an attractive look by using colors on the clay itself.
The vision is becoming divine with light, Mother is seen descending for destruction.
The sculptures have been given a look using bright colors in OCC compound. The idol of mother made on Rangoli theme looks attractive when the light falls on it. Mother’s statue has been installed on Bahubali theme in the pandal of RR Sporting Club located at Ratu Road. In the puja pandal located at Harmu Panchmandir, Mother Goddess has been depicted incarnating to kill the demon. Because of this, mother’s hair is seen flying in the wind.
