The wait for the subcompact SUV Hyundai Xtor has increased, the company has increased the waiting period, know why?

Hyundai Exter Period: The subcompact SUV Hyundai Exter in India has been launched in India only on 10 July 2023. Although, its booking was started in May itself, but with the launch, its waiting period has also been extended. It is being told that the waiting period is the highest on Hyundai Xtor AMT. As per media reports, bookings are higher for the manual and AMT models. Although the Hyundai Xtor was launched at a price of Rs. 6 lakhs in the ex-showroom of India, it has already booked more than 16,000 units since its booking started before the launch. Recently, while talking to the media, Hyundai’s COO (Chief Operation Officer) Tarun Garg said that the booking of Hyundai Xtor was started in May itself. Since its launch, about 16,000 units have been booked so far.

Hyundai Xter Booking & Waiting Period

Talking about the bookings for the Xeter, Hyundai COO Tarun Garg said that bookings are being done at the rate of 1,800 units daily since its launch. He further said that around 38 per cent bookings have been done for the AMT model, 22 per cent for the CNG model and 40 per cent for the petrol manual model. This means that the bookings for the automated and manual models are being done almost equally.

Waiting period increased by 12 weeks

He said that after the consent of the company’s dealers, the waiting period of Exeter has been increased to 12 weeks depending on the variant. Also, the waiting period for the Exeter manual and CNG variants is six to eight weeks. At the same time, the waiting period for automated models has been fixed between 10 to 12 weeks. Hence, the AMT-equipped model has the longest waiting period despite higher number of bookings for the Exeter manual.

Tata Punch competes with the Citroën C3 and the Maruti-Suzuki Ignis

The biggest thing is that in India, Hyundai Xtor has a tough competition from Tata’s Punch, Citroën C3 and Maruti-Suzuki’s Ignis. According to media reports, Tata’s Punch has sold over 22,000 units ever since the bookings for the Hyundai Xtor were opened in India in May ahead of its launch. However, two other rivals of Hyundai Xtor, Citroën C3 and Maruti-Suzuki, have sold around 1,500 and 8,900 units. At the same time, around 16,000 units of Hyundai Xtor have been booked during this period. From this point of view, the Hyundai Xtor mainly competes directly with the Tata Punch.

expected increase in sales

As per media reports, the Hyundai Xtor is expected to give tough competition to the bestseller Tata Punch, which is equipped with several segment-first features. Apart from the CNG powertrain option, it gets a voice-enabled sunroof, dashcam, six airbags as well as ESC as standard across the range. Hyundai COO Tarun Garg expects monthly sales of the subcompact SUV segment to double from 10,000-11,000 units. He added that though he cannot say how much monthly unit sales the Exeter will manage, but we can clearly say that it is going to churn volumes for Hyundai. He attributes this to the shift in consumer demand from hatches to SUVs in the last three to four years.
