The story of Punjab’s most controversial but popular singer
The story of the film begins with the murder of Amarjyot (Diljit Dosanjh) and his wife Amarjyot (Parineeti Chopra). After that, the story keeps going through flashbacks and in the present. In childhood, Dalit Dhani Ram (real name of Chamkila )He was growing up listening to the same words around him and he also used to compose lines of songs using the same words. As he grows up, Amar Singh is seen making socks in a factory, but he has decided that he will pursue music. He has to do something, because he knows what people like.. He connects with a popular folk artiste.. Writes songs for him, but he also has to do other menial jobs.. Luckily he gets a job. One day he gets a chance to perform on the stage and his name is also Chamkila.. after which his magic starts speaking to the people.. He then forms his pair with Amarjyot (Parineeti Chopra) on the stage i.e. Akhara.. This The couple becomes a couple in life also.. Chamkila’s fame takes her arena to Canada and London.. At that time, the crowd in her shows is more than that of superstar Amitabh Bachchan.. The villains of Chamkila’s story are the contractors of religion.. He demands that he should stop singing obscene songs.. otherwise he will kill himself.. In the beginning he also gets scared and desist from making such songs, but in live shows when the audience demands such songs from him. His close ones advise him not to do the shows for some time, but he clearly says that it is too much. Advantages and disadvantages of the film
Director Imtiaz Ali had earlier made the film Rockstar on the life of a singer and lyricist, but this time he has brought on screen the story of a real life singer… who was a cobbler by caste and was also from a very economically weaker section. Used to come, but this film does not glorify Chamkila or her struggle.. When Surinder’s character says to Chamkila’s character that I have made you sit with me, you have become equal to me, Chamkila only says that I am a cobbler. , But I will not die of hunger.. The film brings out caste discrimination very simply instead of anger or rhetoric.. The film does not try to clear the image of Chamkila singing obscene songs, but the story behind it Brings forward the reason in a powerful manner.. The film has also brought forward the question of moral policing very strongly.. which seems relevant even today.. Chamkila’s character has a dialogue in the film that everyone That we don’t have the capacity to think about right and wrong.. People like me have to survive somehow.. Anurag Arora’s police character says in the film Most of the people in the world are dirty and bad..Most of the people like garbage, so what to do if you give it to them..Overall the film works by maintaining this balance in every frame..Without any judgment or big statement it is based on the riots of 84 and its aftermath. The film also touches upon the social and political situation of later Punjab.. The film has been shot at real locations.. which has taken the film closer to reality.. The cinematography and look of the film is completely 70’s and 80’s. Does justice to the 1970s decade..Music is an important part of this film and Imtiaz Ali along with composer AR Rahman, lyricist Irshad Kamil and singer Mohit Chauhan has left no stone unturned in making it memorable..He has included original songs. Chamkila’s lyrics and personality have also been very well integrated.. The original songs of Amar Singh Chamkila have also been kept in the same manner in the film.. The English translations of the Punjabi songs in the film are continuously shown on the screen so that the audience can understand the language. There should be no problem with this.. Talking about the shortcomings, the side of Chamkila’s first wife has been presented in a very light manner in the film.. The child of the first wife has not been mentioned in the film.. The film is of Rockstar at many places. Reminds me.. The animation sketch in the film was used to a great extent in Rockstar also.. Ishq Mitaye has become a wonderful song but that song has the impression of Rockstar’s Sadda Haq song.. This cannot be denied. Is..
