The price of tomato reached 20 to 80 rupees per kg in Gorakhpur market, the vegetable became costlier due to decrease in arrivals in Maheva Mandi.

Gorakhpur: Tomato prices have increased once again. Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 70 to 80 per kg in the retail market. A few days ago, tomato was being sold in the market at Rs 20 per kg. The price of tomatoes in the wholesale market is Rs 55 to Rs 60 per kg. The reason for this has been said to be the continuous decline in the arrival of tomatoes since last one week. On normal days, 100 tonnes of tomatoes are arriving daily in four to five vehicles in Maheva Mandi. Only two vehicles of tomatoes are reaching these two markets. Its effect is visible in the markets. The market remained closed for the last two days due to Diwali, but it is expected that the price of tomatoes will fall in the next one or two days. Due to the increase in the prices of tomatoes in the markets once again, its effect is visible on the pockets of the people. There was a continuous decline in the price of tomatoes with the increase in arrivals in the Maheva market, but last week, the tomatoes which were being sold at Rs 12 to Rs 15 per kg in the wholesale market, have now started selling at Rs 55 to Rs 60 per kg. In the retail market, Tomato which was sold at Rs 20 per kg has now reached Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg.

Five trucks of tomatoes are being consumed, only two trucks are reaching the market.

Vipin Kushwaha, wholesale vegetable seller of Maheva Mandi, said that till a week ago, the arrival of tomatoes in the market was continuously increasing, due to which the price of tomato was 12 to 15 rupees in the wholesale market. But there is a continuous decline in the arrival of tomatoes since last one week. Due to which tomatoes are being sold at Rs 55 to Rs 60 per kg in the wholesale market, while tomatoes are being sold at Rs 70 to Rs 80 per kg in the retail market. Vipin said that four to five trucks of tomatoes are consumed daily in Maheva vegetable market. But here since last one week only two trucks of tomatoes are coming due to which the price of tomatoes has increased.

Punjab’s new potato reached Maheva market.

New potato of Punjab has reached Gorakhpur Maheva wholesale vegetable market. Its price in the market is double that of old potato. The price of new potatoes in the wholesale market is between Rs 24 to Rs 28 per kg, while in the retail market new potatoes are being sold at Rs 35 to Rs 40 per kg. The arrival of new white potatoes from Punjab has started in the market, but people will have to wait for one more month for local new potatoes. Due to less arrival in the market, the price of new potatoes is high. Awadh Gupta, a vegetable trader in Maheva Mandi, said that the arrival of new white potatoes from Punjab has started in the market, but local new potatoes will reach the market after a month, due to less arrivals, the price of new potatoes is still high. To provide relief to the people from expensive onions, the onion supply department of NAFED is selling it in retail at Rs 25 per kg. By selling the same onion of NAFED in the wholesale market for Rs 40 per kg, the commission agents are making more profit. In the retail market, onion is being sold at Rs 60 per kg, whereas in the wholesale market the price of onion is Rs 40 to Rs 48 per kg.
