The Narendra Modi government at the Center has made preparations to further increase the strength of the Air Force. Under this, to boost the combat capability of the armed forces, the purchase of additional consignment of 97 Tejas light combat aircraft and about 150 Prachanda helicopters has been approved.

The Defense Acquisition Council (DAC), headed by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, also approved a proposal by the Indian Air Force to upgrade its Sukhoi-30 fighter fleet, sources said.
Additional burden of Rs 1.3 lakh crore will increase on government treasury
The mega procurement projects and Sukhoi-30 upgrade program are expected to cost the exchequer Rs 1.3 lakh crore. It is expected that the Defense Ministry will soon provide details of the projects sanctioned by DAC.
