T20 cricket match is a game of thrill. Many times the score remains equal in the match till the last ball and the match becomes tied. Then the decision is taken by super over.
The same excitement was seen in the T20 International match played between India and Afghanistan on January 17, 2024 in Bangalore. The match is tied as the scores of both the teams are equal.
The India-Afghanistan match was even more special because the match remained tied even in the first super over. After this, another super over had to be played, in which Team India won.
This was the 33rd time in the history of T20 cricket, which started in 2006, when a match between two teams was decided in a Super Over after a tie.
Team India has played tied matches in T20 International 5 times so far, including the match played against Afghanistan. In all these matches the result has come from Super Over.
The first tied match in T20 cricket history was played between New Zealand and West Indies in Auckland on 16 February 2006, in which New Zealand won in the Super Over.
Then instead of batting in the Super Over, both the teams used to bowl on empty wickets. The team whose bowlers hit wickets more often won. It was called Bowled Out.
India played the first Super Over (Bowled Out) against its arch-rival Pakistan in the T20 World Cup-2007 on the grounds of Durban. Team India had won in this.
India played its next Super Over match after 12 years. India won this match against New Zealand on January 29, 2020 at Hamilton ground in the Super Over.
Just two days after this match, i.e. on January 31, 2020, the match between India and New Zealand was again tied. In this match played in Wellington also, India won in the Super Over.
India’s fourth tie match was also played against New Zealand. The result of the match held on November 22, 2022 in Napier had to be declared a tie due to rain, that is, there was no super over in it.
