In view of the scorching heat, the state government has issued an official notice to declare summer vacation in government and aided schools three weeks in advance from May 2, except in hilly areas. The summer vacation in schools was originally scheduled to begin around May 24-25. The school education department, in the notice, has asked both the primary and secondary boards to declare summer vacation from May 2 in the schools under their control till further instructions. Schools in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts have been exempted from this order. It has been said in the order that the existing academic calendar will be followed in these hilly areas.

Children’s education will be harmed, government should declare only one week holiday

The summer vacations in the schools of the state were to start from May 24. But the education department has announced a holiday from May 2. Closing the school 22 days in advance will affect the education of the children. The government and the education department should reconsider this decision. This demand has been made by the Advanced Society for Headmaster and Headmistress. Society’s General Secretary Dr. Chandan Maity has issued a release saying that the Alipore Meteorological Department has not given any such information regarding the weather in May that a holiday should be declared in advance.

Why every year in the name of summer, day after day holiday will continue in our state? Who wanted this holiday? Student ? Parents or teachers, education workers? The annual plan for the entire academic year is being disrupted. He says that no important decision can be taken by ignoring the Board of Secondary Education or Higher Secondary Education Parliament. It is also not right to interfere in their work. Recruitment corruption is being revealed one after the other in the state. The condition of education is equally bad. On the other hand schools are increasing.

There is a shortage of teachers, teaching staff in rural schools and madrassas. The number of students dropping out of school is increasing. The number of minor marriages is increasing in some areas of South 24 Parganas. Students are not paying attention to studies. The number of secondary examinees is decreasing. At such a time such leave would be a threat to education. In such a situation, we request that the Education Department, without interfering in the work of the Council or Parliament, leave all the responsibilities related to education to the Autonomous Council or Council, so that proper education can be done in schools and madrassas.

It has been suggested by the organization that at present only one week leave should be provided like in Odisha. Later it should be increased after monitoring the situation. There is no need for leave in the districts of North Bengal at this time, so those districts should be kept out of the purview of this leave.

Bangiya Primary Teacher’s Committee protested against the decision of summer vacation

The Bangiya Primary Teachers Committee has issued a release protesting against the decision of the Chief Minister of the state to declare summer vacation in schools from May 2. Anand Handa, general secretary of the committee, says that there was no need to extend the summer vacation in government schools. Like previous years, this year also a unilateral announcement has been made in the matter of giving summer vacations without taking opinion from the Meteorological Department, Paediatricians and teachers organizations. Also, North Bengal is sunny during the day but very cold at night. It will be hot there in June. Last year it was seen that the teachers of North Bengal had declared summer vacation after increasing cold.
