Madhya Pradesh Congress unit of Congress has appealed to former party chief Sonia Gandhi to represent the state in the Rajya Sabha. State unit president Jitu Patwari said on Monday that senior leader Kamal Nath recently met Sonia Gandhi in Delhi and urged her to consider the demand of the state unit. Patwari said in a statement, Madhya Pradesh Congress wants Sonia ji to represent the state in the Rajya Sabha. All the senior leaders and MLAs of the state are unanimous on this demand.

The tenure of five members from Madhya Pradesh is ending

The tenure of five current members of Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh is ending. Of these five seats, four are held by the ruling BJP and one by the opposition Congress. In the 230-member assembly of the state, BJP has 163 MLAs and Congress has 66 MLAs. Depending on the number of members it has in the Assembly, Congress can win a Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh. According to the Election Commission, the biennial elections of Rajya Sabha for 56 seats will be held on February 27.
