Some relief to Congress before Lok Sabha elections

Congress has got some relief before the Lok Sabha elections. In fact, Congress’s petition on the tax matter of Rs 3,500 crore was heard in the Supreme Court on Monday. Meanwhile, the Income Tax Department told the Supreme Court that it will not take any punitive action against Congress in connection with the tax demand notice of Rs 3,500 crore in view of the Lok Sabha elections. The court recorded the statement of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the Income Tax Department. The apex court postponed the hearing of Congress’s petition against the tax demand till July 2024.

Total tax demand till now is Rs 3,567 crore

Let us tell you that just before the Lok Sabha elections, Congress was claiming for the past few days that the Income Tax Department was giving notice to the party. On Sunday, the Congress said that once again a new notice has been received from the department, through which a tax of Rs 1,745 crore has been demanded for the assessment year 2014-15 to 2016-17. It is being told that the Income Tax Department has so far demanded a total tax of Rs 3,567 crore from Congress.
