SNMMCH: Woman dies due to lack of ventilator, uproar

Vicky Prasad, Dhanbad: A 55-year-old woman died on Tuesday due to non-availability of a ventilator in the Central Emergency of Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital (SNMMCH). The deceased Ahilya Devi was a resident of Naitand in Gandey, Giridih. After his death, the family members created a ruckus in the emergency. Husband Kailash Rai alleged that his wife needed a ventilator. The patient was having trouble breathing. Despite repeated requests to install ventilator, no one listened. About three hours after reaching the hospital emergency, Ahilya Devi died due to lack of ventilator. The family members created ruckus in the emergency room for about an hour. The Home Guard personnel deployed for security intervened and pacified the matter. Later the family members took the woman’s body with them.

The family members reached the hospital with the patient at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Family members told that Ahilya Devi was suffering from encephalitis. He was undergoing treatment at Navjeevan Nursing Home in Giridih. Due to serious condition, Ahilya Devi was referred to SNMMCH. The family took him to the hospital at 2 pm on Tuesday. The woman died at 5.15 in the evening.

Fifth death in emergency in three days due to chaos

After the death of Ahilya Devi, there is talk of chaos in the Emergency. Recently, Central Emergency has been shifted to Cathlab. Due to lack of proper arrangements, patients are not getting proper medical care at the right time. This is the reason why this is the fifth death in hospital emergency in three days. Earlier on Sunday, Anand Kumar Tudu, Budhu Tudu of Giridih and Kamlesh Rai died on Monday due to lack of timely treatment due to the chaos. Apart from these, Pradeep Kumar Kisku, who was referred from Dumka, also died during treatment on Monday afternoon.

Six ventilators are available in emergency. We will investigate the reasons for which the patient did not get a ventilator. According to the doctors on duty, the time the patient was brought in emergency. His condition was bad at that time.
