The strike of daily sanitation workers of Patna Municipal Corporation continues for the sixth day on Tuesday. Due to the corporation workers going on strike, the cleanliness system of the city has completely collapsed. The workers, who have been assigned the duty of cleaning the city by the corporation through outsourcing agency, are also being beaten up. To stop these cleaning workers employed by the Municipal Corporation, the striking employees beat up in many areas of the city and prevented them from cleaning. Due to this, an FIR was lodged by the Municipal Corporation against 39 employees in different areas. Along with this, the police has sought help from the police for cleaning work.

Due to which it has become difficult for people to pass through the roads. The leaders of Patna Municipal Corporation Employees Joint Coordination Committee, who were adamant on their demands, submitted a memorandum in this regard to Special Duty Officer Vikas Kumar on Tuesday. The official of the Urban Development Department assured him that the whole matter had reached the CM. He also assured to hold talks with the Chief Minister. Despite this, the workers who went on strike have now resorted to violence.

Due to this, Rahul’s ears, lips and forehead got injured. Rahul is being treated in PMCH. While doing cleaning work near Patna Junction and Mahavir Temple, JCB was damaged. Along with this, there was a fight with the workers working near the bypass in Ward 17. Apart from this, there are reports of fighting from other areas also. In such a situation, corporation workers are reluctant to go out on the road for cleaning. However, during the strike, anti-social elements and miscreants are being monitored through CCTV cameras of Patna Smart City.

Due to the strike, household waste is now being thrown on the roads and garbage has started appearing accumulated at various places. Now the foul smell has started spreading due to the garbage accumulated on the roads. The claims of the corporation administration about garbage collection from houses and garbage collection on roads are not visible. Piles of garbage were seen at places like Boring Canal Road, Government Welfare Hostel in Mahendru, Ashok Rajpath, Mithapur, Punaichak, Station Road etc. The corporation is collecting garbage from the streets and depositing it at the secondary garbage point. Due to this, garbage has started increasing in the city. The work of collecting garbage from the city and sending it to Ramachak Bariya is decreasing. Vehicle drivers are also involved in the strike to support the sanitation workers. The strike of more than eight thousand employees has affected the cleanliness system in the city. Garbage has spread everywhere on the roads, due to which people are facing a lot of trouble. The garbage accumulated due to rain has started rotting.

On the other hand, the cleaning work was started by the corporation administration with 530 vehicles. Private drivers reinstated. Hundred drivers were employed in different areas. The corporation administration has identified the person causing obstruction in the work and filed a case against him. The number of such personnel is 39. The Municipal Commissioner said that anti-social elements will be dealt with strictly. Garbage collection work has started in the city. Gradually the sweepers will return to work.

What did the corporation union leaders say?

After meeting the Urban Development Department official on Tuesday, Corporation Union convenor Nand Kishore Prasad said that there was no discussion regarding the demands of the sweepers and ending the strike. Therefore the strike will continue. The leaders said that private drivers are being hired by paying Rs 1,000 each. At the same time, the corporation employees are facing difficulty in paying less amount than that. Committee Chairman Chandra Prakash Singh said that we have requested the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to intervene in this matter and provide justice to the employees.
