Since the formation of Jharkhand, BJP has been at number one in terms of vote percentage.

Vivek Chandra, Ranchi: Since the formation of Jharkhand, BJP has remained at the number one position in terms of vote percentage. In the first Lok Sabha elections held after the formation of the state, BJP had won only one seat. But, that year also BJP was at the top position with 33.01 percent votes. In the elections held in 2009, BJP had won eight seats in Jharkhand. But, the total vote percentage the party got in the state was 27.53 much less than last time. In the third and fourth Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won 12 and 11 seats respectively in the state. In both these elections also, BJP had got more votes than all other parties.

JMM has been getting more than 10 percent votes on an average:

Among regional parties, JMM has been getting on an average more than 10% vote percentage in the elections held in the state. JMM’s lowest vote percentage in the 2014 elections was 9.42. Apart from this, in all other elections after the formation of the state, JMM has succeeded in taking more than 10% of the total votes cast. Apart from JMM, the performance of JVM Prajatantrik, a party formed by Babulal Marandi after breaking away from BJP, has also been average. In the 2009 and 2014 elections, JVM also secured more than 10% votes.

Independents also get votes:

Independent candidates also get votes in the state. In terms of vote percentage, independent candidates get the highest vote percentage after BJP, Congress and JMM. In the 2004 elections, independent candidates got 6.89 percent votes. At the same time, in the 2009 elections, 11.12 percent votes, 3.33 percent in 2014 and 4.21 percent votes in 2019 were received by independent candidates. In the elections held so far, no other party has been successful in getting even five percent of the total votes.

Congress’s vote percentage kept decreasing

The vote percentage of Congress party has been decreasing election after election in the state. However, as an exception, in the Lok Sabha elections held in 2019, Congress had secured a better vote percentage as compared to 2014. In 2019, Congress had secured 15.81% votes. Which is 2.33% more than the votes received by the party in 2014. In the elections held so far, Congress had got the highest number of 21.44% votes in the first general elections held in 2004 after the formation of the state.
