Silkyara Tunnel Accident: ‘The first 24 hours were very difficult…’ Laborer Subodh trapped in the tunnel narrated his ordeal

Silkyara Tunnel Accident: All the 41 workers evacuated from the Silkyara Tunnel of Uttarkashi have been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh on Wednesday. Health tests including blood samples of the workers have been completed and a decision regarding the workers will be taken only after their reports are received. Medical Superintendent of AIIMS Rishikesh RB Kalia said that along with blood samples, radiological and cardiac tests of all the workers have been done. The Superintendent said that the reports of these investigations will come by tomorrow i.e. Thursday. He said that these reports will be studied by a team of doctors and then further steps will be taken based on their opinion.

Laborer trapped in tunnel narrates his ordeal

Subodh Kumar Verma is also among the 41 workers rescued from the Silkyara tunnel. Subodh Kumar is a resident of Jharkhand. Subodh was also trapped in the accident that happened on 12th November. He has thanked the Central and State Governments for their efforts in evacuating all 41 people safely. Narrating his ordeal, Subodh said that the first 24 hours were difficult but after that we were provided food through pipe. I am absolutely fine now and am in good health. Food, water and medicines were provided by the rescue team. Subodh said that he is completely fine and is feeling good.

Health checkup going on in AIIMS Rishikesh

It is noteworthy that in the afternoon, all the workers were brought from Chinyalisaur Hospital to AIIMS Rishikesh for intensive health check-up by Chinook helicopter of the Indian Air Force. At AIIMS Rishikesh, the workers were first taken to the trauma ward from where they were shifted to the 100-bed emergency ward. All the workers trapped in the tunnel were rescued safely on Tuesday night, the 17th, through a rescue operation conducted on a war footing by various agencies of the Central and State Governments.

All workers are completely healthy

After being taken out of the tunnel, he was taken to Chinyalisaur Hospital, 30 km from Silkyara, where he was kept under medical observation. All the workers are healthy but due to being stuck in the tunnel for more than two weeks, they have been brought to AIIMS Rishikesh due to possible health problems. After meeting the workers at Chinyalisaur Hospital in the morning and taking stock of their well-being, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, while talking to the media, had said that all the people are healthy and happy but on the advice of doctors, they are being sent to AIIMS Rishikesh for examination.
