Shahrukh met Gauri for the first time in 1984, when he was only 18 years old and Gauri was only 14 years old. He bumped into her at a party, where she was dancing with a friend.
Initially, Shahrukh was nervous about asking her to dance, because she was already dancing with another boy. Finally, when SRK gathered the courage to ask Gauri for a dance, Gauri refused him saying that she was waiting for her boyfriend. But Gauri was actually waiting for her brother.
