Service Voting: In the Lok Sabha elections 2024, a total of 44,377 voters in Jharkhand will cast their vote through service voting. This year there has been an increase in the number of people casting their votes from the border in Jharkhand. 15,260 new service voters will vote from the border in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Every year the number of such voters is in lakhs in the entire country. This year, about 35 lakh service voters will participate in the elections from across the country. Service voting: Who are service voters?

According to the Election Commission of India, service voting can be done by those voters who work in the army, paramilitary bus, or police. This is also valid for those central and state employees who have duty somewhere during voting. All of them are included in the category of service voters. It includes names of people from different departments of the government. All these people who are part of service voting cast their vote through postal voting. When the counting of votes starts after the elections, the votes of these service voters are counted first.

Service Voting: How is service voting done?

There is a separate system for service voters to participate in voting. A mail is sent to the service voter for voting. This mail is called Form 2, 2A and Form 3. Voters have to print it and tick mark it. This tick mark has to be done in front of the candidate or party for which the voter wants to vote. Voters have to do this in front of their commanding officer. After this, that printout has to be sealed in an envelope and sent to the officer of your election area.

Service Voting: Facility to create proxy

Eligible voters have also been given the facility to become proxy voters for service voting. If service voters wish, they can also choose proxy voters for themselves instead of postal ballot. Proxy voters are those voters who can vote in their place. There are some rules and guidelines for these by which service voters can choose their proxy. If a service voter chooses a proxy voter for himself, then the proxy voter has to be a permanent resident and voter of that place. Official proxy voters are appointed by the Election Commission. When a proxy voter is made, the name of the voter is already registered in the polling booth as a proxy voter.

  • Members of Armed Forces- Form 2
  • Working in State Government Police or serving outside the State – Form 2A
  • Employed in Government of India but posted outside India – Form 3
  • If the service voter wishes to register himself as a general voter – Form 6

The Election Commission is continuously promoting service voting. Continuous campaigns are also being run regarding this so that more and more people become aware and contribute to this great festival of democracy.
