Sent his son to the National Athletics Championship after taking a loan, when he returned after winning the gold medal, people raised him on his shoulders.

Aligarh: Veeresh Mathur, resident of village Jiroli Dor of Lodha area, returned back to Aligarh on Sunday after completing the 200 meter race in just 21.26 seconds and winning the gold medal in the 38th National Junior Athletics Championship held in Tamil Nadu. During this time, Veeresh was welcomed everywhere. Veeresh Mathur did not have money to participate in the National Championship held till 10th November. Father Ramveer Singh used to manage the household expenses by farming. The father took a loan at the rate of three percent. Mother Nexa Devi and sister Vimlesh had given them shoes and clothes after working as laborers in the fields and sent them off to play. The dream of his parents was fulfilled by son Viresh by winning the gold medal. When Viresh reached Mathur village on Sunday, the villagers welcomed him with flower garlands and musical instruments. Neighbor Sher Khan welcomed the player by giving him eleven thousand rupees.

Made national record in 200 meter race

Veeresh Mathur, the gold medalist in 200 meter race in the National Athletics Championship, was warmly welcomed by the sports lovers with drums at Aligarh Railway Station and took him to his native village Jirauli Dor in the form of a rally. Social worker Dr. Shailendra Pal Singh told that while taking this promising player to the village, he was welcomed with flowers and rain at every place. Who has brought glory to Aligarh by making a national record. District Panchayat member Jang Jeet Singh Fauji said that Veeresh Mathur has completed the journey of this gold medal by preparing in adverse conditions in the village. Viresh Mathur told that he has made a national record in Under 20 in 6 years, which he achieved in 200 meters race in 21.26 seconds and his aim is to win a medal in Olympics in future.

Made a name for yourself with limited resources

Ashwani Singh of the village told that he has only two bighas of land. Despite lack of resources, Veeresh Mathur, the only promising among four brothers and four sisters, has brought glory to Aligarh. Vicky Chaudhary said that Veeresh has been participating in running competitions for 8 years and has been winning medals. Harikesh Sharma said that his achievement will further increase the attraction of youth towards sports in Lodha area. Vivek Pratap Singh has demanded from regional MLA and MP Satish Gautam that there should be an initiative to honor and provide financial support to such emerging talents, so that the inclination of youth towards other sports other than cricket increases.
