He did not get the BJP ticket in the 2019 assembly elections, so he decided to contest as an independent. Saryu Rai contested against the then Chief Minister Raghuvar Das from the Jamshedpur East Assembly seat.

Saryu had defeated Raghuvar Das in the assembly elections

In this election Mr. Rai defeated Chief Minister Raghuvar Das. In the year 2019 elections, he also campaigned for Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) at many places to defeat BJP. Saryu Rai had gone to Dumka assembly constituency to campaign for JMM’s working president Hemant Soren. In Jharkhand, when JMM formed the government under the leadership of Hemant Soren along with Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal, Saryu Rai also supported this government.

However, later Independent MLA Saryu Rai also raised questions on the decisions and functioning of the Hemant Soren government on many issues. Shri Rai has also formed a separate party. Saryu Rai has indicated that he may field his party’s candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well. There is discussion in political circles about Saryu Rai that he can contest from Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat. BJP captures 12 out of 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand

However, Jharkhand has a total of 14 Lok Sabha seats. Of these, 12 seats are currently held by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won the Rajmahal parliamentary seat and Geeta Koda of the Congress won the Singhbhum Lok Sabha seat. There was also discussion in the middle that Geeta Koda can leave the ‘hand’ of Congress and adopt the ‘lotus flower’ of Bharatiya Janata Party. But, till now this is only a discussion. No indication of this has been given by Geeta Koda.
