Santhan was given death sentence

Santhan was given death sentence in the case of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, although it was later commuted to life imprisonment. In November 2022 itself, Santhan and other 5 murderers were also released. He had served a jail sentence of about 32 years. Even after his release, he was kept in the special campus of Trichy Central Jail. The reason behind this was that they were originally from Sri Lanka. The culprits neither had passports nor travel documents.

Santhan had filed an application in the court

It may be noted that Santhan had filed an application in the Madras High Court and expressed his demand that arrangements should be made to send him to Sri Lanka. This is because he wants to meet his elderly mother. However, before any decision could be taken on this, Santhan died after a long illness.
