The Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar on Tuesday presented the budget for 2024-25 in both the houses of the Bihar Legislature. Amidst the uproar of the opposition, Bihar’s Deputy CM cum Finance Minister Samrat Chaudhary presented the budget in the House for the first time. Samrat Chaudhary presented a budget of Rs 2 lakh 78 thousand 425 crore i.e. Rs 2.78 lakh crore. This is the biggest budget ever in the history of the state. Earlier, the budget for the year 2023-24 i.e. the current financial year was Rs 2 lakh 61 thousand 885 crore. According to which this time the budget size has been increased by Rs 16,540 crore compared to the last time.

Poverty rate declined by 18.13 percent

In the budget speech which lasted for about 35 minutes, priority was given to education, roads, health and social sectors. More emphasis has been given on jobs and employment in the budget. Many big announcements have also been made for farmers. While presenting the budget, Samrat Chaudhary said that a decline of 18.13 percent has been recorded in the poverty rate of Bihar. Whereas the poverty rate of the entire country has declined by only 9.89 percent. Along with this he said that I am happy to tell that the economy of Bihar is better than other states. The growth rate of Bihar is 10.4. This is the highest in the entire country.

63 percent of the budget will be spent for development

A budget of Rs 2,78,725 crore was presented in the Bihar Legislative Assembly. In which the expenditure is estimated to be Rs 1,78,706 crore. Samrat Chaudhary said in his budget speech that the focus will be on development in the state in the coming financial year. 63 percent of the total amount of the budget will be spent on development items.

Bihar’s budget increased two and a half times

The budget size for 2023-24 is Rs 2,78,425 crore. If we look at the size of the budget in the last ten years, it has increased by about two and a half times. A budget of Rs 2,61,885 crore was presented in 2023-24. Earlier 2,37,691 crore in 2022-23, 2,18,303 crore in 2021-22, 2,11,761 crore in 2020-21, 2,00,501 crore in 2019-20, 1,77,000 crore in 2018-19, 2017-18 A budget of Rs 1,60,000 crore was presented in 2016, Rs 1,44,000 crore in 2016-17, Rs 1,20,000 crore in 2015-16, Rs 1,16,000 crore in 2014-15.
