Sachin Tendulkar Birthday: great indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar On the occasion of his 50th birthday, a gate named after him was unveiled at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Monday. Tendulkar turned 50 on Monday. He scored 785 runs in five Tests at the SCG at an average of 157, with a highest score of 241 not out. Tendulkar termed SCG as his favorite cricket ground outside India.

It’s a great honour: Tendulkar

Tendulkar said in a statement issued by the SCG, ‘Sydney Cricket Ground has been my favorite ground outside India. Right from my first tour of Australia in 1991-92, I have some special memories attached to SCG. Tendulkar said, ‘It is a matter of great honor that to enter the SCG, the players will use the gate which has been named after me and my good friend Brian. I express my gratitude to SCG and Cricket Australia for this. Will visit SCG soon.

Players will now enter the ground through the Lara-Tendulkar gate

On the completion of 30 years of Brian Lara’s innings of 277 runs at the SCG, a gate was also unveiled in the name of this legendary West Indies batsman. Both these gates were unveiled by SCG President Rod McGeoch and CEO Kerry Mather and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley. Players will now enter the ground through the Lara-Tendulkar gate. A plaque has also been installed on both these gates, on which the achievements of these two players and their records in SCG have been described.

Extremely honoured: Lara

Lara said, ‘I am feeling extremely honored by this recognition from the Sydney Cricket Ground and I am sure Sachin must be feeling the same. I and my family have special memories attached to this ground and whenever I am in Australia, I always enjoy visiting here. Tendulkar and Lara have now joined the club of Donald Bradman, Alan Davidson and Arthur Maurice who have gates at the SCG named after them.
