Royal Enfield Himalayan becomes ‘Royal King’, beats Triumph Scrambler and KTM to win Bike of the Year award!

Royal Enfield Himalayan: Royal Enfield has won the prestigious Indian Motorcycle of the Year 2024 award for its new Himalayan. Royal Enfield Himalayan has taken the first position, leaving behind the Triumph Scrambler 400X, while the KTM 390 Duke has been placed at the second runner-up position.

How is Bike of the Year chosen?

Indian Motorcycle of the Year is the most prestigious award given to a motorcycle, along with Indian Car of the Year. The jury consists of journalists from magazines and other media channels, who test motorcycles throughout the year. Dipayan Dutta, Assistant Editor, Auto Today and Rahul Ghosh, Associate Editor, Auto Today are the esteemed members of the 14-member jury. Each jury member has 25 points to award which must be divided among the five contenders, with a maximum of 10 points allowed for a single contender.

How Royal Enfield Himalayan became number-1

Royal Enfield Himalayan Price

The Himalayan beats the Triumph Scrambler 400X and KTM 390 Duke as well as the Harley-Davidson X440, Hero Karizma XMR, Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 and TVS Apache RTR 310. Prices for the Himalayan range from Rs 2.69 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs 2.84 lakh (ex-showroom).

Royal Enfield Himalayan Features

The 2023 Royal Enfield Himalayan is powered by an all-new 451cc liquid-cooled motor (a first for RE) which is codenamed Sherpa 450. It produces 40.02bhp at 8,000rpm and 40Nm torque at 5,500rpm. This engine comes with a 6-speed gearbox with slip-and-assist clutch. The engine is tilted forward, the airbox sits above the engine, meaning the whole thing is more compact than the old Himalayan.
