Republic Day 2024: The main function was organized on Republic Day in the national capital New Delhi, where attractive tableaux were brought out from different states. Meanwhile, the silky shine of Jharkhand’s tableau attracted everyone. The tableau of Jharkhand showed the efficiency of tribal women in the production of Tasar Silk. The tableau beautifully showcased the journey of the garment from its creation to taking it to the global level, with various stages of tasar rearing, cocoon production, weaving and design. This time the tableau of Jharkhand introduces the audience to the rich heritage of Tasar silk. Jhumar folk dance and indigenous music were also presented in this tableau.
Standing ovation to the tableau of Jharkhand
This year, the theme of Jharkhand’s tableau released on Republic Day i.e. 26 January 2024 was, ‘The King of Jharkhand’. The tableau was beautifully decorated through Sohrai and Kohbar painting. Women associated with the production of Tasar Silk were also shown working in the tableau. Be it Tasar production or the making of the garment or its reaching global level, an attempt was made to show each and every aspect through different stages. Many people stood up and greeted the tableau of Jharkhand. It is known that Jharkhand is the main producer of Tussar silk in India. Jharkhand has also applied for the coveted GI (Geographical Indication) tag for its Tasar Silk. Jharkhand It would not be wrong to call it the capital of silk (Tasar Silk).
Tasar Silk is famous by the name of Ahimsa Silk
In ancient times, Tasar Silk was also called ‘Kosa’ or ‘Wild Silk’. However, now it is also famous by the name of Ahimsa Silk, because now there is no need to kill the Tasar moth to produce Tasar silk. In the new technique, the insect is being allowed to replicate alive, whereas in the traditional method, to produce silk, the cocoon was boiled in hot water, which killed the tasar insect. In such a situation, Tasar silk production with new technology is also proving helpful in the conservation of biodiversity.
