Ranchi: Government lost Rs 10 crore in Urban Haat scheme

Ranchi: Rs 10 crore has been lost in the Urban Haat construction scheme in the capital. On the lines of Delhi Haat, funds have been spent on planning to develop an urban haat near Kanke Dam in Ranchi. In the year 2016, to build the Urban Haat, the half-completed construction was abandoned amidst the jungles and bushes. The scheme was stopped after the then CM raised questions on the utility of Urban Haat due to the construction being left incomplete. Later, after completing the incomplete construction, construction of many other schemes like Skill Development Center and Girls Hostel was also considered. But the plans running on paper have not been implemented till date. The present government decided to complete the Urban Haat by spending another Rs 11 crore on the scheme. But, this plan also could not be implemented on the ground.

The idea was to give a bigger market to small businessmen

The idea was to provide a big market to local small and big businessmen in the proposed Urban Haat. Urban Heart was to be built to provide a big platform to the local craftsmen, traditional food and artists of the state. Apart from Jharkhand, the aim was to provide a market for artisans from all over the country to set up shops and sell their products. There, a plan was made to provide employment to the local youth, starting with training centers and conducting business activities.
