Ram Mandir: The walls of Ayodhya will be decorated with terracotta fine clay murals, scenes from Ramayana will be depicted.

Yogi government is leaving no stone unturned to decorate Ramnagari Ayodhya in a grand style. The process of rejuvenation of the entire area is going on before the grand consecration program of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple proposed on January 22 in Ayodhya. In this sequence, the work of providing attractive depiction of important events of the Ramayana period on all the major routes connecting Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is being expedited. Ayodhya Development Authority (ADA) has started the process of decorating the walls of all major roads leading to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple with terracotta fine clay mural artworks. For this, applications have been invited to engage the agency through Request for Proposal (RFP). ADA aims to play an active role in promoting tourism in Ayodhya city and intends to do this through public private partnership. It is noteworthy that ADA has started implementing the plan to implement the vision of the Central and State Government, according to which a target has been set to develop Ayodhya as a global spiritual capital by the year 2047. Also, meaningful efforts are being made towards creating state-of-the-art infrastructure in Ayodhya, so that this city can become a vibrant mix of antiquity and modernity.

Artworks will be installed on major roads

According to the Ayodhya Development Authority, the upcoming design, construction and installation of terracotta artefacts and murals along the iconic Dharma Path Road is a testament to its commitment to preserving the heritage of Ayodhya while enhancing its contemporary vibrancy. This effort is not just about decorating a route. It symbolizes the blend of tradition and modernity, welcoming pilgrims and visitors to experience the timeless charm of Ayodhya. The creation of terracotta murals along the Dharma Path road will attract a large number of pilgrims and travelers in search of spiritual peace here. These murals will serve as a visual history, narrating the sacred legends, epics and stories that have been imprinted on the heart of Ayodhya over the centuries. These murals will act as cultural guides for pilgrims, bridging the gap between the sacred past and the tumultuous present. These murals not only become artistic expressions but will also pave the way for knowledge, understanding and unity. Apart from promoting the beautification of the city, it will also act as an open air gallery.

This will be the size of terracotta artefacts

The Terracotta Mural Initiative is in line with the ADA’s strategy of Historic City Circuits and Heritage Walks. By integrating art, heritage and infrastructure, this initiative serves the strategic objective of creating spaces that will instill a sense of pride and belonging among residents and visiting pilgrims alike. Additionally, this project will directly contribute to ADA’s goal of promoting cultural tourism and establishing Ayodhya as a global tourism destination. In this sequence, more than 50 mural sculptures and mural paintings to be made will be 9 feet high and 20 feet wide. Their themes will be based on different Ramayana episodes. They will use fine soil (only fine clay of river bed). The soil selected for making the artefacts will be free from urea and salt to avoid corrosion. The baking (firing) of the artefacts will be done at a temperature of 970-1050 degrees. The relief of the murals will be 8 inches and each part, piece and block will be applied to the wall with polymer mortar over which only weather coating paint will be applied.
