Rajasthan assembly elections Bharatiya Janata Party, which captured power in 2023 with a resounding victory, had to face a crushing defeat in the by-election held on Srikaranpur seat. BJP leader Surendrapal Singh, who was made a minister even before contesting the elections, lost the TT elections. Congress candidate Rupinder Singh Kunnar won the Srikaranpur assembly seat by defeating TT by 11283 votes.

Surendrapal Singh TT was included in the Council of Ministers as Minister of State (Independent Charge) on 30 December. He was given the Agriculture Marketing Department, Indira Gandhi Canal Department and Minority Affairs and Waqf Department, but he did not take charge. Elections on this seat were postponed due to the death of Congress candidate and then MLA Gurmeet Singh. Winner Rupinder is the son of Gurmeet Singh. Voting took place here on January 5, the counting of which took place on Monday.

TT got 83,667 votes

According to the Election Commission, Congress candidate Rupinder Singh got 94,950 votes while TT got 83,667 votes. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Pirathipal Singh, who stood at third position, got 11940 votes. With this victory, the number of Congress MLAs in the 200-seat state assembly has increased to 70. The ruling BJP has 115 MLAs in the state.

TT’s second consecutive defeat

Surendrapal Singh TT has not lost from Srikaranpur seat for the first time. In fact, this is his second consecutive defeat on this seat. He also had to face a crushing defeat in the 2018 assembly elections. At that time TT was in third place.

The Congress candidate got the benefit of voters’ sympathy.

BJP lost on Srikaranpur seat also due to farmers movement. Even though Karanpur falls in Rajasthan, the influence of Punjab is completely visible here. From lifestyle to language it is of Punjab. The farmers movement has full influence among the people here also. BJP also had to suffer loss due to this.
